Flamenco

Beginner & Intermediate

An exciting and dramatic style of dance which encompasses a range of rhythms - Sevillanas, Tangos, Alegrias. Combines precise strong footwork and graceful arm movements which develop your balance, control and coordination skills as well as a fiery passion for the music and dance of Spain.

Beginners and Improvers are taught by Lorna Cochrane of Deseo. A fabulous performer and dedicated teacher, Lorna takes you through basic technique and beautiful choreographies as well as an introduction to palmas (the specialised hand clapping everyone associates with flamenco) and castanettes.

The class runs over one & a half hours so there's a half hour section in the middle for technique for both groups. This means you can do the full hour & half session or pick the hour which best suits your abilities. Payment is same as for a single class plus £3 extra to do the full session.

You'll feel like you've been transported to a little part of Spain in Sunny South Street by the end of the session!

This has built up a superb Flamenco scene in Glasgow and we have regular Penas and Performances in the Cafe area of the studios (La Bodega) with Guest performers and our performance group El Fuego de la Noche.

Adult Beginners: Monday 7.00-8.00pm

Adult Improvers/Intermediates: Monday 7.30-8.30pm

WHAT TO WEAR?

Comfortable trousers / leggings and cool tops are best to start with. You can use a pair of hard-soled shoes with a small heel at first (not sling backs - they don't give enough support).

Check if it's for you before you splash out on flamenco shoes. Once people decide they want to dance Flamenco they usually want to get into the character of the dance and get the shoes, skirts etc.
